Dr.
Knox Completes Three Advanced Surgical Courses
Dr. Thomas E. Knox, a Mountain Home orthopaedic surgeon,
recently studied advances in shoulder surgery techniques
including fractures, shoulder joint replacement, and
less invasive surgery, known as arthroscopy, as well
as arthroscopy of the knee. Dr. Knox earned a total of
38 credits of continuing medical education by completing
three courses.
Sponsors of the courses were: College of Medicine -
Mayo Clinic, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons,
Arthroscopy Association of North America, and American
Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.
Dr. Knox completed "Advanced Techniques in Shoulder
Arthroscopy, Arthroplasty & Fractures" at the
Mayo Clinic Surgical Skills Laboratory featuring a faculty
of professors and leaders of orthopaedic programs in
American hospitals and one in Lyon, France. Dr. Knox
said this course focused on new techniques and technology
recently developed for the shoulder.
A course at the Orthopaedic Learning
Center, Rosemont, Ill., entitled "Management of Unstable Shoulder:
Arthroscopic and Open Repairs," gave physicians
an opportunity to compare different techniques for treating
shoulder instability including rehabilitation and how
to avoid complications. It was designed to benefit physicians
treating the athletic population.
"Advanced Arthroscopy: Knee and Shoulder" dealt
exclusively with techniques of arthroscopy and was held
at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center,
Jackson, Miss.
Dr. Knox has practiced in Mountain Home since 1983 and
is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic
