Occupational
Therapy
Our occupational therapy
staff specializes only in treatment of injuries to
the upper extremity. This can include, but is not limited
to, conservative or post-surgical treatment care of
the following: carpal tunnel syndrome; rotator cuff
tears and tendinitis; amputations; fractures; tendon
or nerve lacerations; or multiple trauma disorders.
The Knox Orthopaedics
occupational therapy department is one of only three
in Arkansas that utilizes hand/upper extremity equipment
for evaluation and treatment of their patients. Melissa
Smyth, OTR/L, is an upper extremity specialist, and
the department is certified. We treat wounds or injuries
from accidents or trauma, disabilities from repetitive
motion disorders, arthritic patients, and post-surgery
patients.
Our occupational therapy staff works
in conjunction with area businesses and industries
to offer preventive education, safety seminars, and
assistance with work site design. The OT staff also
serves as an education setting where OT students can
complete their internship requirements.
